Preparing for sound mix
Got myself a pretty good pair of closed headphones the other day in preparation for the sound mix. These are quite comfortable to wear, not the best but portable enough to take anyway.
サウンドミックスに向けて新しいヘッドフォーンをゲットしました。持ち運びにも簡単で結構気に入っています。

Voiceover
Did some extra voice-over recordings over the weekend with Junko. Now, I’m in the process of adjusting levels on individual tracks and cleaning up audio in order to do the final sound mix.

Music of “Onshinfutsu~Line Disconnect”
Hi there, just putting film editing aside and spend this moment to thank the three main contributors to the film’s music. It took a while to come up with the mix of distinct styles because of the different components of the film. (You’ll understand when you see the film..)
Firstly, the majority of the music comes from Himuro who created a cool variety of electronic music and a new type of horror music influenced by horror music from the 50’s and 60’s. It was Superlight who introduced me to Himuro in the beginning and his music style was exactly what I was looking for.
Some of the tracks used are from his latest album, “Welcome Myself” which was released recently.

Next, I’d like to thank Mari Iijima, a famous Japanese singer songwriter based in LA, for producing a beautiful instrumental piece called “Flying leaves“ for the film. The special scene in question occurs around half way into the film and the tune blends extremely well with the visuals, contrasting with the style of the other scenes.
I attended Mari’s gig last year in Tokyo and got a signed copy of her wonderful English album, ”Uncompromising Innocence“.

And finally, the songs in the film are all performed by Miho, who happens to plays Ema in the film. The songs are produced by her and Shugo, from her mini album, ”Part of your Life“ released a couple of years ago. If all goes well here, ”Onshinfutsu~Line Disconnect“ will be completed by the end of June.

Updated Character’s Page

Onshinfutsu Official Website
Superlight has done a great job updating the Onshinfutsu website. Some missing components will be updated soon but most of the important pieces are there. Both Japanese & English trailers have been updated too and are viewable in a bigger size than previously. You can also download some cool wallpapers. Check it out at www.onshinfutsu.com

Test Screening
Had the first test screening of my film last night. Because the subtitling took so much longer than expected, a lot of the things I wanted to include in the rough cut had not been done.
Thanks to everyone who came and provided me with feedback, it was very helpful in prioritizing what I needed to do before submitting a preview to a film festival.
Now that I’ve done the preview, I can continue working on the effects and hopefully get around to colour grading some of the scenes in the movie.
Easter Show
Took a break from a grueling week of subtitling for my film and went to the Easter Show.
I go there every year and usually come back with a bag of rubber masks. They have proven very useful for dress up parties as well as filming.
This time however, I got myself a toy machine gun…..hahaha.

Picture Lock?
I’ve done the first picture lock for the entire film and watched it all the way through.
This process is usually a frightening experience but it went very smoothly.
Need some small editing tweaks, but apart from finalizing fx shots and music I think it’s
definitely good enough to make a preview for submission to a film festival. Final visual effects,
colour grading and sound mixing will have to be done after the submission deadline though.
Back to work.
More pickups
Here’s a pic from another day of filming pickups. It was a very simple shot but it got pretty tricky to get the light and background looking right to match with the edited scene. Sally, Richard and I had to circle the area a couple of times to get the shot. Having the laptop on location was really handy as we could capture and cut the shot into the edit to check. Couldn’t have done it without it. Luckily, Sally still had all the wardrobe and accessories from the main shoot 2 years ago.
Thank you everyone for your time and effort.

Stop work and Play
Yesterday, I guess the notion of so much work and so little time sunk in while I was trying to work out the number of fx shots that hasn’t been rendered. Suddenly I felt a little dizzy from the pressure I guess and so I decided to shoot some baskets to shake it off. Feel much better now.

2D animation
Many thanks to Superlight who worked late every night last week to get various animation bits done. All is looking good. Just need to do one final tweak to everything when we see all the stuffs together in the edit.

Editing
Things are getting pretty crazy here. I’ve got multiple edits of the same sequence on different drives and so it’s a bit of a nightmare working out how to media manage for the final master. Can’t wait to finish so I can start the final mixing of the audio tracks.
